Madrid - Plaza Mayor

Here's one of the first pictures taken during my summer vacation in Europe. This one in particular was taken at the Plaza Mayor de Madrid, the historic central square located in the heart of the Spanish capital's old quarter. The statue shown here happens to be that of King Philip III (1578-1621), who also ruled Portugal during his reign. 

Not far from here is the Mercado de San Miguel, a covered market that also happens to be a major local destination where anyone who's anyone wants to be seen. Also closeby is the Puerta del Sol, the real focal point of Madrid and where all roads in Spain begin.
