Dusseldorf - Der Rhein / The Rhine

Here's another photo taken during my family's stay in Düsseldorf, Deutschland. More specifically, a panoramic picture of the Old City/Altstadt's riverside. In other words, the Rhine. Right across is the relatively well-to-do district of Düsseldorf-Oberkassel, which also houses the majority of the city's Japanese population (itself the 3rd largest in Europe). Also in view are part of the city's more modern center and the two bridges that connect both sides of the river; both bridges having been rebuilt after being destroyed in World War II.

As a bit of trivia, a few minutes' walk from where this photo was shot is the Königsallee ("King's Avenue"). Build in the 18th Century around a still-functioning canal, it's since become Düsseldorf's main shopping boulevard. In addition to its long rows of high-end fashion stores and boutiques, it also serves as home to several banks and regional media outlets. According to some German papers, it's also considered to be one of the busiest shopping areas in the entire country.
