Celtic Alliance Map-File

Here's a new map-profile once again for the Doomsday-verse! This one though is of the Celtic Alliance from 1983: Doomsday as it looked in 2011 (althistory.wikia.com/wiki/Celt..., one of the leading powers of Europe and virtual guardian of the Survivor-Nations living in what used to be Great Britain.

Due in part to the inconsistencies and a couple contradictions in the source material however, I took some liberties in how the CA is portrayed in the AU. I especially made use of these maps to help work out the details (images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__c... , rarayn.deviantart.com/art/1983..., although the references to New Britain and its cults (althistory.wikia.com/wiki/New_... are very much based on the source material, though I couldn't resist including a nod to the Doomsday-verse fics themselves with "Arthur."

This was also one of the WIPS that were mostly finished before the heavy rains earlier this week. Fortunately, it's finally finished! So please feel free to enjoy it!

Forged from the ashes of the old United Kingdom, the Celtic Alliance has against all odds risen from its humble beginnings to become one of Europe’s, if not the world’s major powers. Led by the defiant nations of Ireland and Scotland, it is a republican secular union bound together by ancient cultural and social ties. The CA’s political, economic and military power has also gained it great prestige on the international stage, from being (alongside the Nordic Union) a founding member of the Atlantic Defense Community and an influential player in the League of Nations. But much of its existence could be described as a struggle against the devastating legacy of Doomsday.

The events of 26 September 1983 were not at all kind to Great Britain as several Soviet warheads destroyed large parts of the UK, with the aftermath seeing much of England in particular collapsing into chaos. Ireland, which had with the exception of the British-controlled North escaped the attacks, suddenly found itself cut off from the rest of the world. But even in desperation, the Irish saw opportunity as they reintegrated what remained of their Northern brothers not long after. By as early as 1984, contact was made with what remained of Scotland, many of its key leaders having been in the Hebrides and Highlands when Doomsday occurred. Renewing old alliances, the two nations continued rebuilding and strengthening themselves even as they brought the Northern Isles and eventually Glasgow (which had been evacuated, though not attacked) back in order.

Still, it became clear that there was no way Britain would ever be the same. Seeing that the two Celtic countries only had each other to rely on, it was decided that a new force would rise in whatever remained of the world; the days of the United Kingdom were to end once and for all. Thus on the Spring Equinox (20 March) of 1986, the Celtic Alliance came to being in Dublin. By the time contact with the outside world was restored in 1992, nearly all of Ireland and Scotland had recovered somewhat from the immediate aftermath of Doomsday, but it didn’t stop there. The rest of the decade saw the CA spread its influence (and eventually membership) into the Isle of Man, Cornwall and Wales, though it would go on to reach as far as the Channel Islands, Brittany-Normandy and even the surviving communities in the English Wasteland.

Today, it remains a beacon of security and prosperity in its corner of Europe. It has with pride long proclaimed itself to be the true successor to the fallen UK even as it slowly phases English out of use, but the recent years since have complicated its position somewhat. As expeditions into the wastes continued, contact was made with the various Survivor-Nations that had survived amidst the ruins of England, many of whom are not particularly fond of submitting themselves to Celtic rule, despite remaining friendly for the most part. The exception to this, however, is the militaristic state of Ur-Alba (Southern Scotland), which had recently, went on a warpath against all its neighbors, though so far the CA and its Survivor-Nation allies have had the upper hand.

Meanwhile, contact with the Survivor-Nation of New Britain, formed in what was left of South Africa by remnants of the British Government and the refugees that came with them (including what was left of the Royal Family) has brought its own claims into conflict. Not to mention the strange reports of various faiths from there such as Albionism and the “Cult of the Once and Future King,” which some fear may be starting to spread in the Isles and even CA territory. Rumors continue circulating that the constant references to Camelot and King Arthur may refer to a deceased individual whose existence is classified if not outright denied. Coincidentally, this supposed person was also given the name Arthur…
